Final Workshop – PRIN 2022 PNRR
Food Connections: Intended and Unintended Consequences of Trade on Food and Nutrition Security

November 6–7, 2025
Aula 3, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa

The Final Workshop of the PRIN 2022 PNRR project “Food Connections” brings together scholars, policymakers, and experts from international organizations to discuss how global trade dynamics shape — intentionally or unintentionally — food and nutrition security.

The event opens on Thursday, November 6, with institutional greetings from Caterina Sganga (Director, DIRPOLIS Institute, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna) and Stefano Schiavo (Principal Investigator, University of Trento), followed by an opening speech by Elisabetta Siracusa (European Commission).
The first session will explore the relationship between food security, sustainability, and international trade law, featuring contributions from scholars and practitioners from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, the FAO, and the University of Trento.

On Friday, November 7, the discussion focus on the diffusion of shocks along international trade networks and on the policy implications of global interdependence for food systems. The final roundtable will involve representatives from the European Commission, FAO, OECD, and World Food Programme, offering a policy-oriented perspective on how trade can both enhance and undermine food resilience worldwide.

The workshop provides an opportunity for interdisciplinary dialogue among economists, legal scholars, and scientists to address the complex interplay between trade, sustainability, and global nutrition.
